As you know my birthday was this month and while I don’t worry much about such things, my girlfriend does. Growing up dirt poor, birthdays and Christmas were the same as any other day at our house.

Not parties, cakes or presents under a tree.

I remember the year my little brother found out the truth about Santa – it was his first year of school. Before letting the kids out for the Christmas holiday, his teacher told the kids ”if they were good” Santa would bring them something nice.

Well, Christmas morning came and he was up early to see what Santa had brought him, when he realized there was nothing for him, he ran off crying, because he thought he was bad.

Explaining the truth about Santa to her six-year-old son was the one of the hardest things mom had ever done. After that birthdays and Christmas never really got me excited.

Anyway, like I was saying my girlfriend loves birthdays and Christmas and does what she can for everyone and even though I told her not to get me anything for my birthday, she shows up with a small gift-wrapped box.

I didn’t know what to say, other than I told you not to worry about getting me anything, you didn’t have to – thank you.

Well you’ll never guess what was in the box…No not socks or a hat. Give-up?

You should have seen the look on my face, when I opened the box and found a new Taurus 738 TCP Pistol inside. God bless her.

While I’ve read conflicting range reports from owners of the TCP, I’ve shot 50 rounds (FMJ) through this one without a hitch. Don’t know how well it will handle hollow-points, but I’m going to find out in a couple of days.

Picked up two boxes of 5 x 9 inch surgical dressings (24 total) and a box of sterile absorbent cotton and a 6oz bottle of antiseptic first-aid wash for my growing medical kit.

Ordered a copy of “Practicing Primitive: A Handbook of Aboriginal Skills“ and Primitive Technology: A Book of Earth Skills but haven’t received them yet. Both have a good rating and reviews on amazon so my hopes are high.
